Hope Walks

Hi Everyone.

I am writing to invite you to join me in participating in the First annual Newton Wellesley Hospital Hope Walks…which will be held on SUNDAY, September 26th at 10am. It's a 3.5 Mile walk through Waban and around/past Brae Burn Country Club. It should be a terrific event….and all proceeds benefit the new Vernon Cancer Center at Newton Welleseley Hospital.

For those of you who don't know, the Vernon Cancer Center opened less than a year ago…and is absolutely beautiful. You should stop in and see it some time. Importantly, the Cancer center brings state of the art cancer technology and services to our local community hopsital. For example, The Mass General radiology team staffs the radiology center…which is terrific as it allows patients to conviently receive top care without having to go into the city.

Many/Most of us, I’m sure, have been touched by cancer in our lives in some way….a family member, friend, colleague….and understand or have seen the physical and emotional toll it can bring to someone's life. Personally, I lost my father to a brain tumor 6 years ago…and my mother is a 13 year breast cancer survivor. In both cases, we utilized the awesome cancer services in downtown Boston….and those services are now available at the hospital down the street from us.

A year ago, I joined the Board of Overseers at the hospital…and have learned so much about the incredible progress the hospital has made over the last 7-10 years. It's a very impressive place, and I'm proud to be part of events to raise money which will enable it remain vibrant and able to expand its sevices.

Please come out and join me for this event…I have created a team called TEAM AUBURNDALE for this event and I am hopeful to recruit many of you to participate in the walk with your kids. It would be great to have a big Auburndale/Newton crowd. It will be an easy 2 hour walk on a Sunday morning. There is a $20 registration fee per walker…and the hope is that each walker will strive to raise $100 from friends and colleagues…but any amount is welcomed (by having you send out similar emails).

You can also click on the FIND A WALKER/TEAM button…and search for TEAM AUBURNDALE and then follow the Registration process.

If you cannot join us on September 26th, I would very much appreciate any financial contribution you feel comfortable making (no amount is too small).
